I’ll never understand the hatred of Halo 3’s Cortana/Gravemind moments, especially by those who care so much about story and atmosphere. “They slow down the gameplay!”. What, you can’t stop shooting things for five seconds? Play multiplayer then. It’s a real sticking point with me. The whole Halo community fails on 343i for not giving us the story elements we want, but we still won’t let Bungie live down giving us the story elements we want. Do we want the Flood to be a cosmic horror of unknowable proportions that give us moments of tense horror and atmosphere before a power that seems nearly godlike? Or do we want to just shoot space zombies over and over again in an unbroken loop? Either is fine, but let’s choose one and stick to it.
